another sunny day in oxford-sound familiar?

must be a record as they called off the fore-casted rain for today and we had a warm and sunny day. run wise, i stayed up finishing the bascomb book about "the perfect mile" and at almost 2am finally went to sleep. but was up early enough to get out before it heated up and ran north up binsey lane with gail and across the boat house trail to the thames path. at the river we went north towards the nunnery at godstow road, kept company by many crew teams out doing timed intervals out on the river and by cows near us on land, though mostly they were napping on the ground on the river banks.

a tight and somewhat tired first few miles got better as we went and i could tell even the short speed work and strider work was helping as my legs had some life to them despite having to be tired. even had some of what non-runners call runner's high as the legs just sort of take over and want to run faster. easy to enjoy that though it never lasts very long.

coming back down the trail south towards the rainbow bridge i ran into a man from boston and his english wife as they walked along the thames trail watching their daughter out on the river crewing. i had forgotten i was wearing a cape cod marathon shirt and he quickly picked up on that. as luck would have it he was in charge of the democrat organization in oxford and we chatted about many things quickly as gail kept running and left me to chase her down. fortunately she had turned around and came back for me. and then we headed back down the river and towards home, where i left her as i turned south and ran towards the king edward park and ran a loop there and back over to the make shift track section.

ran about 20 x 50 yard striders really trying not to go fast at all, but just to loosen up the legs a bit and practice form and breathing. then stretched a bit and jogged a two mile warm down back to the grocery store and got some bottled water and yogurt. and headed home.

eventually ended up going to the driving range as gail wanted to work on her book some and we decided we would go to the botanical garden tomorrow or the university parks and do our usual stuff today. the range went ok as i continue to learn stuff daily now and am finally understanding some more of my swing. only shanked two today and knew why for a change- but mostly it went better and i worked up to the 5 iron today which went so-so, but had a future. all in all i am satisfied that i understand more. would still like to be able to have a longer swing and am working on it.

after the range and book work we went to city center for dinner and ate at a pub called "the mitre" which dates back to 1261. had a pub food meal that was pretty good-usual fish and chips and onion rings-the healthiest of meals, but a little grease now and then can't hurt can it? sure it can i know but....

and now here i am listening to you tube and typing. getting late here and still very warm. glad for these fans as the house is very warm- shame it isn't like this in the winter. will be nice to have heat and hot water again someday.

another day done -- back to do a few more emails and get some rest. 57 miles in this week so far so will go over 60. won't get near that when i am back in the states. all a matter of having lots of time and not a lot of responsibility, but it feels good knowing i can run pretty much anywhere i want to given enough time.

will miss the philly race for the cure tomorrow and mother's day. will catch up next year. go phillies.
