an okay rainy day

was up pretty early and out the door to run after gail's early call from england; blogging from the usa is not as much fun as from oxford as everyday here is more typical and knowing i am going back there soon, filled with junk to get done first.

but as i said, out the door to run with the sun just coming up i headed south on the trail towards mt vernon. very uneventful early morning run- nice sunrise over ft washington again but knew the rain was coming. cool air but warming up quickly, saw nobody as i headed past ft hunt and down cardinal alley and over the harry anderson bridge and through the swamp. some walkers out now- the usual morning group and we shared a greeting.

stopped for a quick stretch at the water fountain near the 1 mile marker- 2.5 miles from the house. was very tight. trying to keep the stride a little shorter than usual again to help the right hamstring recover. through the woods where many trees were down now and up the hill to the mt vernon parking lot. some excitement as a bike rider decided he liked my side of the trail better and he actually went around me on the wrong side of the trail. but missed me at least. up to the non-working fountain and stretched again for a bit at the bench. a little better.

and then back down the hill. heart rate dropped quickly going down , but the legs were not that fresh for sure and i know i need a day off. between the faster runs, more speed work, more hills, harder bike rides, and longer hours on my feet practicing
my legs are not getting enough recovery here at home. throw in 3 hours less sleep a night and a morning heart rate a constant 4-6 beats higher and i know i need some rest.

but running and stretching i made it back to the house and wandered around the garden a bit picking out wild onions. the newly planted shrubs looked ok as they have been getting watered and rained on more than enough. seven miles for the day and now off to baltimore.

up to baltimore to see julieta and have some help with all of the bad habits i picked up lately. don met me at my house and we headed up and got up there with no problem, though it started to rain as we got close.

had a really nice and very helpful lesson and then started back home. not enough time right now to go into more details but have a really good idea of what i have to practice and focus on now.

and now back to doing taxes. already late and stuff to do. sleep awaits but not yet.
