weird start to the day today- went to burke lake in the rain to meet don and run. on the way there, two birds flew into my passenger window, but were able to fly away. two miles later 2 more birds flew into my already broken front windshield and they wouldn't live to talk about it. so after yesterday's incident when the truck in front of me lost some boards that i could not help but run over as well as the stone breaking my window and 2 bird incidents i wondered what was going on. kept heading over furnace road and then as i turned the corner near the dump, i just missed hitting 3 white tail deer crossing the road. must be a spell on my car.
finally got to the lake and don and i ran around in the rain moving slowly but steadily, stopping briefly to say hi to lynn cooper's memorial bench. poor lynn died right after i was diagnosed with melanoma from melanoma. back in the day when we were decent runners we had run the jfk 50 miler together and i still stay in touch with her husband pete, the leader of cookie's crew relay team.
mentioned to don that we might want to pick out the spots for our benches while we were still alive so we would know where they were. somewhat kidding, but still seems like a good idea rather than have our friends someday say, he would have liked the bench here.
cold and rainy and muddy and puddly(is that a word?), but we got around. i could tell the quads had run 10 hard miles yesterday, but my legs are strong from all of the miles run in the UK and i was able to go around and then walk and run 2+ more miles around the parking lot loop while waiting for the group to come in as don went off to find breakfast.
and then home to a hot shower and breakfast myself. now off to the day's adventures. back later.
