a good run day

a.m. heart rate was 46. had a nice run today and tried to keep up the intensity a bit with 48 minutes of a seven mile run at or above the 70% heart rate level. helped to run the 5th mile plus with a guy named alan who pushed me as he was finishing his run. was nice to do that again. then ran another 1.5 miles at a decent pace alone and to the store for breakfast stuff and a paper. gail headed off to get ready to go to brookes for the day, but she seemed to have a nice enough run though had some breathing problems. one never knows here what the quality of the air will be and it is always fun getting used to the allergies of a new place. of course they don't call washington the allergy capitol of the world for nothing, and i myself find it easier to breathe here in oxford, though i take my asthma meds most days i can remember.

the river trail was flooded out again. someone needs to wake up the city council people here and get them to fund the contract they gave out to fix the trail and then reneged on. not for me or other runners, but it is a main connecting trail for people coming over from jericho via port meadow and then to botley road. add this to the list of every other week trash(bin) pickup and a flawed senior bus pass system, a building built to the wrong size at the carpark-who did that measurement?- a really bad decision turning down the bodlean library from building a new library facility, and now the announcement of the closure of 22 local-village type local- post offices( i should add at the same time as they announced increased housing being built in some of those villages), and you wonder who does the planning for tomorrow here. it is one thing to be a really beautiful old city, but someone has to move it into the 21st century.

maybe it is true that nothing can be done that the college and the church doesn't approve.

one other note- what they call town and gown boxing, a boxing match between the city folk and the college folk, to promote good feelings between the two. hard to see that they do more than barely co-exist. but what do i know? not a lover of boxing. a jousting match or football game maybe????

listening to a bonnie tyler concert as i type this. she and meatloaf will always have a special place in my heart. back later.
