this won't have meaning for everyone, but read in the paper that most people here don't know that shrove tuesday is the beginning of lent. they call it pancake day here as you get to use all of the rich incredients in making pancakes that you won't need for the lent period. but now, observation is down, and why-because pancakes are hard to make.
in a country that seems to base most of its culture on their coping skills that is hard to believe.
at any rate i always give up something for lent despite my obvious lack of any faithful religious bent and this year it is cookies. that might not seem like much unless you live here where you can get pretty decent cookies at a really decent price. could have given golf, but have already done that and it would have been a cowardly redundant promise.
